You can transfer funds to the True Link Visa® Prepaid Card in several ways:
- Schedule one-time or recurring transfers by using a connected bank account through the True Link online dashboard or mobile app
- Initiate a direct deposit from your bank or the cardholder’s employer. Once the funds have landed on the Card, the cardholder can begin to make transactions. Please be aware that we cannot accept wire transfers, checks, or credit card payments.
- Schedule one-time or recurring transfers from the True Link Wallet*, a virtual card with its own balance, separate from the balance on the cardholder's physical True Link Visa Card, through the True Link online dashboard or mobile app. More information about the Wallet can be found here.
In this article, you’ll learn how to transfer funds to a Card. Information on funding timelines and limits can be found here.
Before you begin
- You'll need full access. Only full access administrators can schedule transfers. If you have assistant or view-only access, please ask a full access administrator on your account to complete these steps.
Option 1 – Transfer funds through a connected bank account or the True Link Wallet from the online dashboard
If you would like to take advantage of our flexible transfer tools and have visibility into when the Card will be funded, we recommend transferring funds through a connected bank account or through the True Link Wallet. To do this, go to your cardholder's dashboard and click on the Funding tab.
- Click any of the green Transfer buttons that you see.
- Select where the funds are coming From, then select where the funds are going To.
- Enter the amount to make available to the True Link Card, and the date when we should initiate the transfer.
- For one-time, monthly, and twice-monthly transfers, you'll enter the date the transfer should initiate.
- For weekly transfers, you'll enter the day of the week that the transfer should initiate.
- For threshold transfers, you'll enter the balance threshold that will initiate a transfer (a threshold transfer will initiate within one business day of the Card's balance falling below the amount you set).
- Check the last four digits in the To field before you submit, to ensure the money lands on the cardholder's physical card instead of the virtual card.
- Review the transfer, and if everything looks correct, click Submit. The transfer is now scheduled!
Coming Soon: One Transfer funds button
What's new?
- One consolidated Transfer funds button
- Updated "From" and "To" fields
- If the account has only one funding source and/or one destination — for example, one connected bank account and only one active Card — the From and To fields will fill in automatically. If the account has more than one funding source or destination, you'll select where the funds are coming From and where they're going To.
Editing Transfers
Once you submit the transfer request, you can view and edit scheduled transfers on the “Funding” tab of the account dashboard, as well as view recent transfers that have been completed. Through this dashboard, you can:
- Cancel a one-time transfer
- Skip a recurring transfer. Note that skipped transfers will continue to appear until the scheduled date has passed.
- Edit an upcoming recurring transfer to a different date or dollar amount.
- Edit the entire recurring transfer series. Note that editing the entire series will also change the "next" transfer. You can review and confirm the updates in the section below titled "Transfers in the next 7 days".
Option 2 –Transfer funds through direct deposit
If you would like to allow an employer to deposit a paycheck to a cardholder’s True Link Visa Card, or if you prefer to initiate a deposit to the Card from your bank, we recommend transferring funds using direct deposit.
- To transfer funds to the Card using direct deposit, you’ll need the direct deposit information, which can be found by clicking on the Account tab of the True Link Card dashboard.
- At the bottom of the Account tab, you will see a section titled Direct deposit information, where you will find the routing number and account number for the card.
- Visit your bank’s website or contact your bank directly to initiate an external transfer to the card’s routing and account number. You can also deposit a paycheck from an employer directly to the True Link Visa Card - to do this, provide the True Link routing and account number to the employer.
Once your bank or employer confirms the external bank account, direct deposit will be set up!
When will the direct deposit be available
Funds sent via direct deposit often arrive on the Card within 1 business day. This timeline can take up to five business days, depending on your bank or employer, and we recommend contacting them for a more precise estimate.
Below are a few important points to remember about funding through direct deposit:
- Account numbers are unique to each Card. If a new or replacement True Link Visa Card is ordered, that Card may have new direct deposit information. Please update the Card information you have on file with your bank or employer.
- If you send funds to the wrong account number, contact us right away. Your funds may be returned to the bank account from which they were sent (e.g., your bank account or the employer’s bank account if the cardholder’s wages are deposited onto a True Link Visa Card) rather than being made available to the cardholder.
- Funds sent to a permanently closed Card will be returned. If you try to send funds to a True Link Visa Card that is permanently closed, those funds will be returned to your bank account or employer.
Option 3 – Transfer funds from the mobile app
Administrators can schedule one-time or recurring transfers from the True Link Mobile App.
- Tap the Fund Visa Card button.
- Enter the amount you'd like to transfer, then tap Next.
- To change where the funds are coming From or going To, the Frequency of the transfer, or the Transfer Date (the date the transfer will initiate), tap the blue Edit button.
- Tap the blue + Add a note button to add a Memo. This step is optional.
- Tap the green Review button.
- On the next screen, review the transfer details, including the date the transfer will initiate and the Arrives In timeframe, which tells you when the funds will be available on the Card.
- If everything looks correct, tap Submit. The transfer is now scheduled! If you'd like to make changes, tap the white back arrow in the upper left corner of your screen to return to the previous page.
When your transfer will be available
Transfers from a True Link Wallet virtual card to a physical True Link Visa Card will be made available on the transfer initiation date.
Transfers from a linked bank account generally take 1 business day to become available. Newer customers can see transfers take up to 5 business days to become fully available. When funding from the online dashboard, above the Submit button, a green banner tells you the exact day your funds will be ready to use. For example, "Funds will be available Thursday, July 30th."
Funds sent via direct deposit often arrive on the Card within 1 business day, though this can take up to 5 business days depending on your bank or employer — we recommend contacting them for a more precise estimate.
