The True Link Wallet* is a virtual card with its own balance, separate from the balance on the cardholder's physical True Link Visa® Prepaid Card. Because the two balances are separate, you can keep money in the Wallet and move it to the cardholder's physical card only when they need it. Transfers from the Wallet to the physical card are typically available the same day, which makes this the fastest way to get funds to a cardholder.
In this article, you'll learn how to schedule a one-time or recurring transfer from the virtual card to the cardholder's physical card using the True Link online dashboard, and when those funds will be available. If you'd prefer to do this from your phone, see How to Transfer Funds From the True Link Mobile App.
If you haven't opened a Wallet yet, start with How to Open a True Link Wallet. To add money to the virtual card, see Scheduling Transfers With Your True Link Wallet.
Before you begin
- You'll need full access. Only full access administrators can schedule transfers. If you have assistant or view-only access, please ask a full access administrator on your account to complete these steps.
- The Wallet must have funds in it. A transfer can only move money the virtual card already holds. You can check the available balance in the Wallet section of the Client View page.
- Know which card is which. The cardholder's physical card and the virtual card each have their own last four digits. You'll use them in the To field to confirm the money is heading to the physical card.
Schedule a transfer from the Wallet to the physical card
If you manage one True Link Visa Card, the cardholder's dashboard is the first page you'll see when you sign in. If you manage multiple True Link Visa Cards, open a cardholder's dashboard by clicking the View link in that cardholder's row on the All Clients page.
- Click the Funding tab at the top of the cardholder's dashboard.
- Click any of the green Transfer buttons on the page. They all open the same Transfer funds window.
- In the From field, select the Wallet Virtual Card.
- In the To field, select the cardholder's physical True Link Visa Card. Check the last four digits shown here before you continue, so the money lands on the cardholder's physical card rather than the virtual card.
- In the Amount To Transfer field, enter the dollar amount to make available on the physical card.
- Choose a Frequency, then enter the timing for that schedule:
- One Time, Monthly, or Twice Monthly – enter the date the transfer should initiate.
- Weekly – choose the day of the week the transfer should initiate.
-
Threshold – enter the balance that should trigger a transfer. A threshold transfer generally initiates within one business day of the physical card's balance falling below the amount you set.
- Check the green banner above the Submit button. It tells you the exact day your funds will be ready to use.
-
Review the transfer, and if everything looks correct, click Submit. The transfer is now scheduled!
Coming soon: one Transfer funds button
We're simplifying the Funding tab. Here's what's changing:
- One consolidated Transfer funds button. The multiple green Transfer buttons are being replaced by a single Transfer funds button.
- Updated From and To fields. Because an account with a Wallet has more than one funding source and destination, you'll still select where the funds are coming From and where they're going To, just as you do today. Accounts with a single funding source and a single Card will see these fields fill in automatically.
When your money will be available
Transfers from the virtual card to the cardholder's physical card are typically made available on the same day the transfer initiates. For a one-time transfer dated today, that means the funds are usually ready to spend right away.
Check the availability date before you submit. Above the Submit button, a green banner tells you the exact day your funds will be ready to use.
You can read more in Funding Timelines and Limits.
Please be aware
- Two balances, two purposes. The cardholder can use their physical card to spend money, and the virtual card is typically used by administrators to support the cardholder for certain purchases (e.g., large purchases, or subscriptions managed with support from the administrator like a cell phone bill).
- Check the last four digits before you submit. The From and To fields list both cards. Confirm the last four digits in the To field so the money lands on the physical card rather than the virtual card.
- The transfer date is not always the availability date. Transfers between the Wallet and the physical card can be instant, while transfers submitted via a linked funding account or via direct deposit will take at least 1 business day to become available.
- The Wallet needs its own funding. Moving money to the physical card lowers the Wallet balance. To top the virtual card back up, see Scheduling Transfers With Your True Link Wallet.
What happens next
Once you submit, the transfer appears on the Funding tab under Transfers in the next 7 days (and, for a recurring transfer, under Recurring transfers). Back on the Client View page, the Wallet section shows the updated available balance once the transfer completes, and the cardholder's physical card tile shows the new balance.
From here, you may want to:
- Scheduling Transfers With Your True Link Wallet – add more money to the virtual card.
- Managing Recurring Transfers – edit, skip, or delete a recurring transfer.
- Accessing the Wallet Virtual Card – find the 16-digit card number and CVV for purchases made from the virtual card.
